You know, it occurs to me that these blessed men probably had their 12 children by more than one woman...

I find it easier to buy into be fruitful and multiply when you consider when the Bible was written at least several of your children didn't survive childhood because of disease or problems that are easily treated today. One book that really impacted me was "Death Without Weeping" which looks at maternal love in Brazil in places where death in childhood is frequent. www.amazon.com/Death-Without-Weeping-Violence-Centennial/dp/0520075374Having as many children as possible without antibiotics, clean water, vaccines, vitamins, diverse food is entirely a different reality than with modernization.

Hah, I had to laugh when I read this. It's *exactly* what I used to think when I read that particular verse. Happy is the MAN. Exactly. He gets to be the boss of everything, so why wouldn't he be happy? One tiny biological contribution, and he gets his quiver full, a slave for a wife, and credit for the greatness of his family.
