Hey All! Yesterday evening, we had another board meeting for the Take Heart Project. We're working hard to get this NLQ charitable organization set up ~ and plan to have the website up and running by next weekend so that I can promote it during the NLQ Blogathon. I've created this area of the forum for the THP board members to use in soliciting ideas and help for the project. I've set it up so that all forum members can create threads ~ so please feel free to utilize this space to discuss, offer suggestions, share resources, etc.

I personally would love more details on everything so when it finally gets released to the public, I can do a blog entry on it, and set up a permanent link to it.
It might be an idea have some form of button created using the logo. T'would make it easier to link back and more prominent on the blog!

I'm glad to see people like it! My sister is the web designer, and she's providing her services for us free of charge, as her contribution toward fighting the good fight. And now, NLQers, I could use your help. I'm writing the mission statement for the THP, and I am trying to get it concise, powerful, and accurate. Right now, it is accurate, at least. One out of three isn't bad. "The Take Heart Project has three purposes: to connect women and children who are escaping abusive religious movements with groups who provide safe haven and assistance, to advise aid organizations on the special needs of these [women? families? refugees?], and to educate the public on the plight of the spiritually abused." In addition, I'm looking for a tagline that succinctly expresses our philosophy. See nonprofit.about.com/od/nonprofitbranding/a/taglinesmissions.htm for examples. Here are some ideas: God should not hurt. Your power is within. Worship is not pain. Love is gentle. I'm sure those of you who have more experience with this area than I do will have some better ideas. Let's hear them!

Is it possible that there are only 2 purposes - support for those within/leaving the movement, and education for those on the outside, specifically the "first responders" in situations like this?
Maybe something more like "The Take Heart Project has a two-fold purpose: to connect women and children who are escaping abusive religious movements with groups providing safe haven and assistance, and to provide the public, and aid organizations, specifically, with accurate, compassionate information on the specific challenges faced by the spiritually abused."
LOL - okay it is exactly the same length. Oh well, maybe my rephrase will provoke some more ideas. Really the only thing I would really like to see changed is the word "plight." It makes me think "pity" not "reintegrate into society."
Maybe the tagline could be "Welcome out."

As for myself, I usually refer to the women/children etc as Religious Refugees. Refugee is a highly moving/connoted word: when people hear refugee, they generally want to help. (sorry PR/Journalism training kicking in!!!) As for tagline, what about something like; "I choose to leave" or "Salvation for the Saved"or "Power without Pain" or "Act, Love, Give". (I like this one the best: after all, we are acting in love to give help to these women: and these three words could be used in many different ways to mean other things) When I think about it, maybe "god" shouldn't be mentioned in the tag line: these women probably feel completely burnt out and in some cases, may feel bitter/angry about him. And they might come from another fundamentalist religion such as Hare Krishna. just some things to ponder: I could be entirely off track. Jo

I like "Act, Love, Give," because it plays off the Eat Pray Love or Laugh Love Live lines that are everywhere right now. OTOH, "Welcome Out" is perfect, I think. It conveys that we're here for them, welcoming them into the world and out of their narrow boxes. I really like it.
As for mission statement, Becky makes some good points. How's this for a rewrite?
"The Take Heart Project has a two-fold purpose: to provide support to women and children who are escaping abusive religious movements, and to provide the public with accurate, compassionate information on the unique challenges faced by the spiritually abused."

I wonder if there would be a way to develop an acronym based on "heart" that wouldn't be too wordy. Something like, "Help encourage all religious t__" or "Help. Encourage. A_ R__ Teach/Train." Or something like that. "Helping Every A_ R__T__" etc.
