Please write for NLQ Carnival Days! All of the regular NLQ guest bloggers (Sierra, Erika, Tapati) will be contributing several short "bonus" posts for the carnival ~ hooray! I’d like to have a cache of about 20 – 30 short posts so that we can have a new post every few hours during the carnival to keep up the traffic and interest. One source for article ideas would be to look at the current NLQ categories (Hot Topics, There Is No “You” in Qivering, What It’s All About, Kobayashi Maru ~ The No-Win Scenario) to see if you might be inspired to write a short item to add to those categories. Please consider writing a brief (300 words or less) post for the NLQ Carnival Days. If you're interested, PM me with your idea. If you're concerned about privacy, it's fine to use your forum name or you are also welcome to post anonymously. The carnival begins Sunday evening ~ that's coming up quickly, so it'd be a good idea to get a head start on writing. IOW ~ don't be a procrastinator like me!

Awesome, Molly ~ I'm looking forward to it And you're right ~ 300 words is doable. So for those who are hesitating ~ just go for it, okay? LOL Anyone have a suggestion for a carnival-themed title for these brief essays that will be posted? Bulletins? Grandstand speeches? Ummm .... I need help with this ...

Vyckie,
One more way, along with what you've got, to help market NLQ is to invite other bloggers to join in on their own blogs---ie, everyone who wants to participate, put a post up (that has something to do with the general NLQ theme) on their blog on, say, Nov. 3rd (or whatever day you want to pick) and at the end of their post, link back to NLQ in support of the carnival.
Back at NLQ, you can compile a list of all those who participated, including putting up the links to their individual posts, and then do a random drawing out of the participants names for a prize to be announced the next day.

What would readers like to know more about in my story?

I would love to know how and when you became involved in the Hare Krishna movement since from what I can read, your mom was against it and you were really young.

You must have joined later in the story--that part was told here: nolongerquivering.com/2009/07/19/patriarchy-across-the-cultures-living-in-the-material-world/Though if you have any questions after reading it (and/or the other earlier posts) please let me know. This is a great opportunity to flesh out the story if anything wasn't clear. Thanks for your interest!

Tapati I would like to know what you miss about your Hare Krishna days and if you have found what you miss elsewhere.
Vyckie I can definitely write you some small pieces to use as you wish. Snapshots, I can think of a lot for that heading. I will work on something today and send it to you.

Tapati -
I'd like to hear (read!) your insight into Religious Vegetarianism. I'm an Epicurean and always appreciate food philosophy.
*Edit to fix spelling... airhead...

I just thought of a great way for those of you who have no direct QF experience, to contribute to our cache of posts ~ could you write a quickie telling why you read NLQ and what keeps you coming back? Maybe a similar one with regard to the forum? That'd be awesome. Ever wanted to be a cheerleader? Now's your chance ... PM me, okay?

The hours d'oeuvre platter of posts just whets my appetite for more It'd be so cool if Joy knew about the Carnival and could mention it on-air - OMG! what perfect timing... It wouldn't hurt for some NLQ ladies to contact her 'people' with thanks for her foresight, and interest, in illuminating the dark corners of Christianity... here: www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form2b.html?3(HLN is a 'product' of CNN btw.)

So sorry to dominate the forum with all my preparations for the NLQ Carnival Days. Please be patient with me as I am scrambling to have most everything set up before I leave for New York. Just a couple things that I still need help with: We still need a volunteer to "man" the Kissing Booth ~ I promise to make it very easy for you Also ~ who wants to run the "Add Three Words" contest? That one will be super simple ~ really! We need a few more prizes. We could use some "testimony"-type posts from regular NLQ readers and forum members who are willing to share about the stories and the community ~ what is it about No Longer Quivering that keeps you coming back? We need a brilliant idea for castor's Fortune Telling Booth. I'd prefer to stay away from using Tarot cards or "doing readings" as I know there are Christian readers here who would feel quite uncomfortable with that. So ~ it seems like such a good idea ~ and we have castor "The Gypsy Girl" willing to run the booth ~ surely there's a fun and non-offensive way to go about it We need "Tour de Crap" submissions for aussiemama's "Hall of Shame" ~ these will be assigned a number so there will be no names mentioned. We need entries if we're going to have a contest ~ so please PM your crap to me! LOL Anyone else have an idea for a Carnival Booth? Something light-hearted and fun? A game? Trivia challenge? Hey ~ how about a QF buzzword trivia contest? I think that's it for now. My thanks to all who have already joined in to help make the NLQ Carnival Days a success.

Anyone writing about keeping the "good" and throwing out the bad? Also, can you be Quiverfull, but NOT homeschool? Quiverfull-minded, but work? I love to snark with the best of them, but know many folks get to this thru genuine faith and it can't go "bad" every time! That said, my posts are snarky!

Well ~ I sure hope all these NLQ Grandstand posts with dead links are not so much annoying as tempting you all to be here for all the amazing, insightful, and sometimes snarky stories which have been submitted for NLQ Carnival Days. It's not too late to submit your post ~ but I am running out of time for posting and preparing for the carnival as I need to be getting myself ready for the trip to NYC. We have a lot going on ~ and you all have been so wonderful to volunteer to help out and make this carnival a spectacular success ~ so I'm anticipating great things We still need someone to "man" the "Add Three Words" booth ~ it'll be super simple, so please contact me if you'll be around for the carnival and would like to help out in this way. We still need a few more prizes. Please consider what you might be able to contribute ~ it doesn't have to be extravagant, really! We're all pretty easy to please here.

I hope seeing a few things up for my booth will get people interested. Sorry it's not "open" yet!
Vyckie, I still have a boatload of old letters and stuff from my own fundie days. Are you open to non-QF Hall of Shame stuff? I can transcribe one. Though I rather shudder at the way I wrote back then, like the rest of you I'm sure.
I provided my own prize for my booth. I had two good body image books in mint condition they can choose from. They can read more about them at Amazon to determine which they'd prefer.

I'll bring the cake with the Jezebel jumping out. My last car was named Jezebel, so this created an interesting mental picture for me. Picture a 1982 blue Toyota jumping out of a cake.

Tapati ~ your Body Image Workshop looks awesome ~ I can't wait for the carnival to open! Thank you for the prize donation. You are already doing so much for the NLQ Carnival Days, I hate to wear you out by asking for your crap too. If you have time, please do submit it. But ~ please be careful not to overdo it. I'd hate for this carnival to be a source of stress and headaches rather than fun and games and community
