That seems so sad to me. Says something about the kinds of connections you had with these people at such a young age--that they have such meaningful things to say about it so many years later. I'm glad you were able to connect with them.

I have another email from another friend sharing her perspective, as well, and I'm going to save that one for an upcoming guest blogger post as it fits really well into my story.
Being that we lived in a very small rural town, friendships were close. The school had 300 kids from K-12 so our classes were small. My class consisted of 16 kids so bonds were tight.
It was good to know, years later, that people didn't forget me, but stayed away because they were confused and upset with my parents.
