Of Prairie Muffins and Pole Dancers: Point #4
“…not chafing…”
According to my dictionary (one of those old fashioned – 2004! - paper and board kind), that’s all about being *irritated* and *vexed* and here all this time I thought it was about sensitive things being rubbed away…
Anyway, what’s been chafing my brain the last few days is the Fantasy vs. Reality thing and how that plays into the lives of both PMs and PDs.
So, at long last, here’s Point #4, Ladies!
PMM:
Prairie Muffins seek to conform themselves to the image of God by not chafing at the trials and afflictions which He brings to them, but thankfully submitting to His loving providence as He makes them fit for heaven.
PDC:
Pole Dancers seek to conform themselves to the image of Sexual Commodity by not obviously chafing at the ‘hoots’ and ‘whistles’ which men bestow upon their naked bodies, but submitting to this ritual as a means to an end.
Notes: 1) This one’s for you, Susan 2) I’m tired as hell – for ‘lifestyle’ reasons – so there aren’t any rick-rolls or links or anything 3) Remember, please, that I am not your research assistant
So I’m thinking that the QF life is a fantasy that is sold to a relatively small group of women,
And,
I’m thinking that the idea that women (and girls) ‘choose’ to strip is a different sort of fantasy being sold to all women.
Right out of the gate, the myth that women (and girls) 'choose’ to strip – as if it is an actual *career choice feminists have fought tooth-and-nail for your Right to have* - adds ammunition to the Religious/Right’s efforts to scare women into thinking that if they ‘choose’ unpaid work and sex-on-demand with an individual man (well, and his agent *God*) that everything will be all hunky-dory and rainbows and butterflies. And I’m guessing that we can agree that the Reality of the QF/P lifestyle doesn’t quite live up to its Fantasy advertising, right?
So when the Reality is:
that 100% of women (and girls) who have been/are strippers report that they have been verbally and/or physically abused/assaulted by customers and/or their bosses at their place of employment, i.e.: slapped, hair pulled, spit on, breasts grabbed, drinks thrown at them, bitten, fingered, punched, propositioned for prostitution, (do I really need to keep going?) I can’t help but call out this Fantasy of ‘choice’ as crap. crap. Crap.
I mean do you really, in your heart of hearts, believe that this is any kind of real choice which any real woman (or 15 year old girl) would make freely? This ‘choice’ which guarantees you will be abused and/or assaulted at work?
Chafing, indeed…
