Hi, I'm Jaspar. Not my real name, I just use it for internet stuff, for privacy. It's actually my son's name (he's feline, just over a year old). I grew up in a fundamentalist Baptist church, and I probably would've ended up having lots of children if I hadn't got out when I did. Basically a series of unfortunate events in 2006 drove me further and further away from the life I'd always thought was inevitable. I dropped out of high school and my pastor arranged for me to go to Bible college a year early, and while I was there I was ostracized for being more interested in fulfilling my dreams instead of trying to find a husband and following his dreams. There were other things that happened, too, that left me depressed and suicidal. It's taken me three years to get over it, but I'm finally getting there. I got my GED last winter, and am starting college in two weeks; I have a loving (if not human) son, and a good group of friends I've met through a fanclub for my favorite band, as well as friends at the Unitarian fellowship.

Welcome, Jaspar! We seem to have a few things in common: I left my fundamentalist church the same time you did, and I live in Michigan with my own fur-children. I was thinking about attending the UU church nearby to fill the occasional pang of longing for a church community. Congratulations on starting college!

Hello and welcome! It's amazing the way some organizations refuse to let women be real people, isn't it? I'm glad you got out of it!

Yes, welcome Jaspar! I don't post much, but if you see me around, remember I said hello! I have two human children and one furry one. The furry one is always adorable and never gives me grief. Let's have a cheer for furry children! Yay!
