Cheryl's story is incredible. I have heard bits and pieces through the years, and look forward to reading the whole thing. I envy women who can tell their stories without the threat of lawsuits. Wasn't there a flower arrangement in the film "Sleeping With The Enemy"?
Reclaiming has been an important theme in my life. At first I rejected everything that had to do with my former life, carte blanche. Then there was a gradual process of reclaiming certain aspects of my pre-marriage self that I had lost in the marriage, like being an avid reader and having potted plants and a cat. Then I reclaimed the harmless things (reminders/triggers) I had rejected since the marriage, in small doses. But I think I will always detest amusement parks.

Vyckie, thanks for sharing your story. I do appreciate it! I think nikita has the idea-- I'd just like to know if there will be descriptions of physical abuse in a post so that I can decide for myself whether it's a good idea to read it.
Certainly don't censor yourselves!
Your stories make a difference.

I was interested to read the Wikipedia entry on Peter J. Peters where it claimed that there was no association with Christian Identity. As one who was forced to listen to his awful anti-Semetic tripe, I can tell you that he espouses many of the doctrines of CI. However, I will go so far as to say that he was never as radical as some of the other groups. I never heard him claim that non-whites were subhuman or needed to be extinguished. But you can bet your booties that he was patriarchal. He was fond of calling women who didn't submit to their husbands, "Jezebel's".
