Welcome, Matilda. You will recover from this. You are stronger than you know.
As for this:
"I wonder, am I part of Eve's line of "snake in the grass" female willfulness?"
No, because the Bible never says anything like that.

Not your fault, Matilda. A good man would have been wrapping his arms around you and hugging you tight when you cried, not spanking you or giving you "chair time".

I hope I am not doing this incorrectly. I had a devil of a time introducing myself, so just yell at me if I'm in the wrong place. I watch the Duggars, and have become interested in some similarities in the women's thinking and the way I was raised, in an LDS home. It was very much works based, on how the Lord would perceive and accept us, and I feel like those of you who have survived the QV movement have many similarities to mine. Mainly, a small group of humans twisting scripture to make it seem like we had the upper hand on what God wanted from us. Putting words in that aren't there--no birth control--sacrifice yourselves, your bodies, etc.,---I'm a 57 year old homemaker, having left nursing after 23 years due to 3 auto-immuned disorders. I know how mormon women felt who could not bear children. I cannot imagine such a life for a QV woman-who cannot reproduce. Anyway, I'm very interested in this group's movement out of there, and those still in. I think the Bates on t.v. are more liberal about the situation than most, and I think Michele Duggar is more rabid about it than Jimbob.

I have often thought that the similarities were rather large between LDS lifestyle directives and those of the super-legalistic quiverfull/patriarchal lifestyles. It's the work-based, home-oriented, man-in-charge-of-women's-lives-to-the-point-of-their-actual-eternal-life worldview that really dovetailed to me. Anyway, I'm glad you decided to join the forum. Your perspective is one I would be very happy to hear in our discussions. Welcome to the forum! :)

We do have another mormon poster I believe, but it sounds like she is coming from a more liberal stream of the religion than you are describing. (I know there are deep gulfs in such things in my own ex-religion, so this would make sense!)

I'm interesting in learning about this Bill Gothard fellow. Does he claim to be a scriptorian, prophet, etc.? And why does his message seem to resonate so clearly to so many? To me, he seems to be another works based author who had personal angst against general Christianity and the way it's practiced.
