People who have left QF and patriarchical families and have bad things to say about it obviously are bitter and angry and didn't do it the right way or their lives would have been shiny and happy like the Duggars. (This blog and razingruth's blog were both linked and specifically mentioned). What's interesting is that people who write me, and others, off as "bitter and angry" would quickly defend an ex-polygamist child or ex-Muslim child's anger as justifiable. If an Iranian, Islamic Fundamentalist child left their faith and adopted Christianity, they'd hold that child up as a testimony to the truth of Christianity. However, if a Christian woman, raised in Christian fundamentalism and patriarchy, holds a lamp up to the problems inherant in that life, they say you're angry and bitter. I was a child. I didn't choose Quiverful. It was chosen for me.

re: the People article: Noooo, God's will? Geez, didn't see THAT one coming! Again, the hypocrisy: a miscarriage is a sign or punishment from God, a sick child is "God's will" and "in God's hands." Pretty convenient! And spending every precious hour, my foot. Except for when she decided it was a good idea to cry over the liquor store permit! ETA: That felt deliciously mean.

Personally, I think we are seeing the beginning of a very long, hard, and sad road downwards for the Duggars. The cracks are beginning to show, particularly in their public image. People are starting to question everything they stand for in a way they haven't before.
All I can say is bring on the tell all: that would be a book I would buy.
Ugh...sorry about sounding so pessimistic, I just always get a really "off" feeling with this family. Call it my sixth sense, whatever, but there is definitely a vibe there that is not healthy.

PrincessJo, I think it's the kool-aid vibe.
The parents definitely have the look of the brainwashed.

"Our children's spiritual maturity is going to deepen so much through this, in a way that couldn't happen any other way," he says"
Um.....no, Mr. Duggar. Children are NOT spiritually mature. They are not DEEP in any way, shape, or form. The only apparent "depth" or "spiritual maturity" you can attribute to any child, is in their compliance with all the external forms of piety you pressure them to. Children are just children, like any other children. They're just human, and whether you like it or not, they are just beginning their own unique spiritual journey, not at the pinnacle of it, in some kind of mature, or deep state. Real maturity won't even be possible until they are on their own and free to make their own decisions, and in addition to that, start facing the storms of their own lives.

I thought that statement was especially disgusting. What he's really saying amounts to God put thisbaby on Earth to suffer all the pain/ agony & possibly severe disabiliies/death which micro preemies endure/face so their other kids can be made more spiritually mature. It's a very sick view of the world & if there is a god & he/she/it/they did anything remotely like that, I'd have to consider such a deity a sociopath.

Wow. This will sound really dumb, but I only just realised how serious it is for a baby to be born that early. I didn't realise there was a real risk of Josie dying.
Are there any updates on her condition? I've done some cursory web sleuthing, but I've only unearthed well meaning platitudes. Anybody know anything more concrete?

I've been wondering about how she is doing, too.

She's still in NICU (obviously) and the family is temporarily moving to LR to be near her.

If it's anything like what my friend and her husband had to deal with when their youngest was born at about the same age, it's going to be a very long six months or more for the Duggar family and little Josie.

Yeah, all the updates are just that she's "stable". Could mean anything from near death to better than expected. And with a micro-preemie it probably does mean all those things every day. Probably won't be any real updates unless something major happens.
With these really tiny babies & what amounts to the torture they endure in order to survive, I really wonder if just because they can be saved sometimes, should they be? Since they've decided to try with Josie, I hope she does make it.

She's gained almost a pound, so that's really good.

Here's a comment concerning the Duggars on the Stuff Christian Culture Likes blog that was a bit of a hoot. Some of the comments are interesting too. Some, as you might expect, think the Duggars are 'Gifts from God' while others think they're nuts. blog.beliefnet.com/stuffchristianculturelikes/Anyway, thought ya'll might be interested. I posted a comment there and link to NLQ. Hope I don't stir up any trolls, eh? Be sure to love yourself, eh? Then try to love everbuddyelse. ;D John

Well, TLC is running previews of a Duggar special about Josie's birth scheduled for the end of the month. Part of me is appalled; I had felt it refreshing that the public wasn't getting constant updates. It would be so intrusive and inappropriate, given the stresses of the NICU. But if they've been compiling a special all along, it feels now that the lack of (public) news is less to protect the family's privacy than to pump up TLC's ratings.
Maybe I'm too cynical and putting out one special is the easiest way to maintain some control over the situation and avoid a barrage of press. And maybe the special will even have the positive effect of making clear the long, hard road Josie and her family have ahead of her and encouraging families to try to avoid high risk pregnancies.
What do the rest of you think?

I think that it will push their agenda even more. I wonder, though, if they will resume the regular filming anytime soon. They are I am sure under contract, but hey, Jon and Kate .....
these families get put through the TLC mill like wheat on a windy day.

Ugh. The Creation "Museum". Tragic. These people do not understand that our kids are in a competition with the rest of the world. If we fail to educate them properly, we put them at a huge disadvantage. Children in Japan, Korea, China, India, Europe are learning real science, not the pathetic, bastardized version pushed by Ken Ham and others of his ilk. These people have no shame, no shame at all.
