Hi, Everyone,
Originally I posted in the comments as Persephone, but decided on a name change.
As a child, my mom would drop me at the Southern Baptist church, but I only really liked Vacation Bible School. Later, my parents became Jehovah's Witnesses. I was baptized at 13, being a good girl. I was disfellowshipped at 22, when I couldn't take it anymore.
For years I worked on scraping away the guilt I felt from leaving my religion and family. A few years ago I stumbled onto some Pagan sites from some history searches. I read and read. I now consider myself a Pagan Agnostic. I believe that the goddesses I worship are real, but they are real because they have worshippers. (When I read "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, I found the beliefs expressed in the book to be very close to mine.)
I have to say that I am not a fan of the desert religions after all I have gone through. But I respect an honest believer, one who walks their path truthfully and fully, and does not attempt to push that path onto others.
I know some wonderful Christians, but I also know many wonderful Buddhists and atheists and Pagans and Muslims and Jews. Respect and kindness to others, especially those not of your belief system means much to me.

Lunargentee—too bad you didn't keep persephone, it was easier to spell! Have you read S.M.Stirling's post apocalyptic alternative reality novels? I think you might like “Dies the Fire” which is the first of his series about what happens when, for no clear reason, electricity and gunpowder stop working. The Pagan/Wiccan part of it which reminds me of what you are posting here is that several new communities and religions arise, led by charismatic leaders, to deal with the social, demographic, economic and medical emergencies that take place when everything stops working. One of the most successful groups is led by a pagan woman who builds a new communal structure based on the old religion and a model derived from scottish clans. I think you might enjoy the series.

Hey, y'all ~ if you're in the mood to be recommending books ~ I did start a board for that and so far, nobody's posted a single recommendation. So many books ... I keep thinking that when I'm 70+ and all my kids and grandkids are grown and I have nothing better to do than read books, I'm going to tackle my ever-growing pile. And I imagine my old-lady self thinking, "Damn ~ that would have been helpful to know back when I was raising kids and trying to figure out life and everything else." LOL Anyway ~ welcome LuneArgentee ~ glad to have you here.
