I got to your blog while looking for something somewhat unrelated around 8:30 this evening and it is now 12:55 AM and I have read all the archives. I am so fascinated because I never realized that people in the "huge Christian family" lifestyle ever came to it as Vyckie did having had prior relationships. I mean no disrespect, I'm just astonished at how captivated I have been by both of your stories, Vyckie and Laura. I'm also stunned by the politeness of the comments on the early posts, and how you have created a little corner of the internet where people are not bashing each other or being smart**ses. Because the internet, you see, is where most people go to spend the whole day making fun of things they don't like.
To Laura, I have to tell you that I left an abusive relationship three years ago and left my child with his father, but I have gone through the court system and just got custody back yesterday, praise God. I had nothing like the magnitude of what either of you had to endure, but I am glad I was led to your community especially for the somewhat painful discussion that arose when Laura's daughters found the blog. I say that this discussion meant something to me because I was able to learn a lot from everything that was said about children and dealing with divorce. I know that my son wanted to be with me the entire time but I also know that his life became what was normal to him and my relief and praise will be tempered by knowing his life, bad as it was with his abusive father, was to my child a normal life to which he will have to adjust to being without.
Forgive me for gushing, but I feel like I've just read a great book and was then given the author's personal email address. I look forward to reading more. Thank you.
