Yesterday was a long day with appointments for all three girls in the morning and then the drive home which ended up taking us about 8 hours ~ which is not exactly record time.
After consulting with the hand and arm specialist at Shriners yesterday, we've made some changes to the original plan for the girls' surgery. Both Chassé and Hazelle need bone spurs removed from three limbs (both legs and one arm) ~ which, if done all at once would leave them with only one arm free of casts, dressings, etc. While that situation would not be anything new for Chassé, we're worried that it might be a little overwhelming for Hazelle who is younger and does not have such a high pain tolerance.
So, we're opting for two surgeries for Chassé and Hazelle, which means that on June 25th, the general orthopedic surgeon will do surgery on the lower limbs for all three girls ~ and then on August 5, the hand and arm specialist will do surgery on Chassé and Hazelle's arms. That means 5 surgeries altogether ~ probably 4 or 5 trips to Minneapolis. As I've said, this is sort of routine for us ~ although we've never had all three girls having surgery on the same day ~ I'm already thinking that Mom (that's me) is going to be spread way too thin that day, huh?
Laura arrived safely in Minneapolis on Tuesday evening ~ hooray. We've been catching up ~ there's always so much to talk about and we were thinking that the long car ride home would be a good chance to discuss all sorts of things ~ but, I think we were both pretty tired, and with the girls in the backseat, we just ended up listening to iPod tunes cranked up fairly loud most of the way home. Towards the end of the trip, we switched to comedy ~ listened to some clips from Mel Brooks and George Carlin ~ fun.
Laura did get some more writing done while on the airplane and also in the car ~ so another installment of her story will be up shortly.
That's pretty much all the news for now. It's a lovely day here in Nebraska ~ it's good to be home again.
