I went to Topic: The 49 Character Qualities of Ruth #16 and clicked on the link to Ruth's story but it didn't come up. That link leads to some sort of casino page, even though the url still says nolongerquivering. Has someone hijacked your page? It's the only thing like this I've seen, though I haven't clicked on much yet.

It was late at night and I thought that'd be a good time to check out how that full-page ads look and decide if i want to try and incorporate them as a way of earning some income from the website. Without my computer, I can't access the website to make any changes with the ads or to do any new posts ~ ugh. The ads do have the "skip this ad" option in the top right corner ~ clicking it will take you to the article you are looking for. While the first ad site I tried out earned $0.11 in five days ~ these new ads have earned $2.32 in about a day and a half. So ~ it's definitely more profitable. But if the full-page ads are too annoying or distracting ~ please tell me! Not that I can do anything about it until I get my computer back. And no new posts on the blog until then either ~ sorry! I am borrowing John's laptop for now (thanks, John!) ~ since it's a mac which I'm not used to ~ and all my files and some of my passwords are on my computer ~ I am not going to be able to put up any posts until I get it back. The good news is ~ it's not the hard drive ~ so all my data is saved. The operating system is corrupt ~ so it has to be wiped and reinstalled. Major hassle ~ cuz I'll have to reinstall programs, etc. once I get my computer back. Fun, huh? In the meantime ~ I hope the ads are not too bothersome ~ and, please ~ you all feel sorry for me cuz I'm so harrassed!

Hello Vickie, thank you so much for the reply. I'm glad you have not been hijacked. It really threw me that it was a Vegas/Casino/Lottery ad.
I don't see a Skip This Ad option (the only options I'm getting is Bookmark This Ad!!! and Your Ad Here) but maybe that's my browser; I use Firefox and I know everyone doesn't.
I'm really sorry to hear about your computer woes and hope you get everything back soon.

Well, as far as the new ad system goes it's fine. I'm on firefox and I see the skip this ad in the top right corner and just click there to go through to the page. This is not the first internet site I use that has this ad system. I think you can set the number of times it shows up. On the other site it used to just come up when you first entered the site but now comes up almost every time you try to change the page within the site. That is probably to raise more money for the site. That is annoying, having it happen each time you 'turn' the page so to speak. But just entering the site is no problem to me. I was kinda happy when I saw it - it meant you had found another way to generate some income. Go Vyckie!

Yipee ~ I've figured out how to access the NLQ website using John's laptop so that I can start posting again!
Good news & bad news:
First the bad news ~ I finished up the post I was preparing when my computer crashed and just as I was getting ready to publish it, I got an email from Chandra asking that I hold off posting the first in her new story series for a couple of weeks due to family issues. So ~ we have to wait for the new series which will be titled: Dispelled: One Girl's Journey in a Home School Cult.
The good news is, tomorrow morning I'm finally going to post the letter I received from a former QF man detailing his thoughts about how his wife's Quiverfull beliefs nearly ruined their marriage. Yay! It's going to be awesome to finally hear from a man the truth about just how "in charge" he really was.
Okay ~ about the full page ads ~ please tell me what you think. I have set it up so that each visitor should only see one full page ad every six hours. I think that if you open a different browser you'll see the ad again though. So far, in the almost-two-days that I've had those ads running, NLQ has earned $3.52. Which makes it the most profitable ads campaign I've tested out on NLQ.
I just want to be sure and get feedback from readers ~ please let me know what you think.
Also ~ I've been talking for a while about opening some of the blog posts to comments in order to increase the page view count ~ I know there are A LOT of readers who have not joined the forum to participate in the discussions here. I'm going to try putting up "Open Comment" posts every few days ~ no particular topic ~ just a post that allows anyone to comment ~ to see what sort of response we get and how it affects interaction, hit counts, etc. Just so you all know that's what I'm doing. Going to post the first open comment thread on the blog now ...
I really do appreciate your support ~ and I value your feedback so please be sure to speak up if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks!

Whenever you're ready for my post, I am recovered from my procedure and able to respond to comments. I look forward to hearing a man's experience in QF and how it looked from his perspective. That should be fascinating!

Vyckie, I think a little warning int he post or before links would help - my first thought was virus, too, until I read this thread. I get the ad when I first go to the page (linked from here) and also when I click the Read More link in the article. I don't mind the ads, I know you need the money.
