Greenwich Mean Time is not helping me here. I suck at time conversion. Does anyone know what time it is anywhere in the US so I can schedule this??

I think it's interesting that these people who decry government basically go out and recreate it. They don't want no government, they just want smaller governing units. In theory, I have no problem with that, but in practice it seems a situation that's ripe for abuse by a charismatic leader. OTOH, I really, really want to "secede" and live in my own created community, like they're doing. Just without the religious aspect. So I have an underlying sympathy for them, while still recognizing that their values are drastically different from my own.

Cereselle, have you ever heard of the Fellowship of Intentional Communities? ic.org - they run a communities directory and put out Communities Magazine and the main communities are all secular.

The whole time I watched this I was thinking, 'Dude, you are so completely dependent on the government.' Think about it. They talk big but who manufactures the things they can't make themselves? Who mines the metal? Who forges the steel? Who logs the wood? Who writes the government checks at least one of them was living on while out of work? Who inspects all of the things they have to buy to survive so the quality is reliable and the furnace doesn't blow up in their faces or the engine fall out of their truck? I realize I am being a purist here, but it does kinda piss me off when people make these assertions and then choose to ignore what government and the rest of society does for them. Only one of these guys admitted he was not trying to live completely separate but was trying to live as separate as possible as a lifestyle choice and that I could respect. Just own what you're really doing and don't put down the hand that serves you is all I ask. I am also one of those that totally gets where they are coming from as far as self-sufficiency and wanting to be as self-contained as possible. Sadly, as I grow older and have more aches and pains I lean more toward total dependence on the creature comforts and what luxury I can afford to obtain without being all greedy. At least that's the hope. I do not want to deal with a well. a generator. a sump pump, or any of the other myriad annoyances of a more rural life. I now prefer to be rural-adjacent.

Rosa, yes I have, and I check their directory every so often. The main problem I have at the moment is that we're stuck with our mortgage-- can't sell the house for anywhere near what we paid, and we're pretty much living paycheck to paycheck due to Mr. C being out of work. So we're stuck where we are. I may go wander through the directory and daydream for a while, though.

My daughter-in-law was told a few weeks ago that the house Jim took out a loan to build and buy, which was $60,000 16 years ago, they now owe $71,000 on! WTH? Not one penny of loans any more gets applied to principle...only outrageous interest rates! No wonder so many people walk away!
