NLQ Forum Guidelines
This is a pretty free place and the rules are very few but we do have some. Please keep these things in mind when joining the forum and posting here on the threads:
1. Assume goodwill on the part of your fellow forum members. We are a very diverse group of people and there are bound to be some misunderstandings and stepped on toes from time to time. It’d be great if those misunderstandings and disagreements didn’t go nuclear.
2. Stay on topic. ‘On-topic’ is a much broader area on this forum than it often is elsewhere, but there are some boundaries. Remember that this is NLQ and its primary purpose is for discussion of issues and topics related to people being caught up in oppressive religious groups of various types and faiths. That is a pretty broad area. Other subjects that may arise in the natural flow of conversation on a thread are fine, but please do not start new topic threads that are not relevant to the forum’s purpose or to the community here.
3. Assume that your fellow forum members are not going to agree with you on everything. We are a very diverse group of people in different stages of life and of different faiths or no faith whatsoever. Be respectful and sensitive to the beliefs and non-beliefs of the other posters around you during discussions. One person may be an atheist and another may be a fundamentalist who disagrees with and/or wants out of the patriarchal lifestyle without giving up their faith. If you privately think that the atheist is a lost heathen or that the anti-patriarchy fundamentalist is a delusional sap please do not intentionally poke them with a stick to see if you can rile them up into a spitting frenzy. We can express our beliefs and opinions fully and candidly without belittling the other person’s faith, lack of faith, their intelligence, their education, or their intentions. (See rule number one: assume goodwill.)
Pro-life versus pro-choice: we absolutely will not argue these positions against each other here no matter how strongly we feel about them. NLQ is not the ground for this argument. We’ve been very good about this, especially in the ectopic pregnancy thread. Let’s keep that up.

I would like to add a note here to say that this forum is a rare place filled with an extraordinary mix of people from a multitude of backgrounds and points of view. We have been able to have lively and diverse discussions with almost no moderator interference to sort things out and we appreciate you all very much for that.
