I love these articles. They are so well researched. I put them in my back pocket for the day when I will need them.

I think I fall in love with Kristen a little bit more every article... The truth is always quite simple, it's lies that are twisted and tortured in order to make any sense of them. Articles like this one take the twisted and tortured and unwind it and lay it out in all it's straightforward beauty, and it just flows over me like fresh breezes over calm waters. There are so many authors and teachers and pastors out there who have been taught the lie and just perpetuate it endlessly, making money on books and classes and conferences that spread the damage as widely as possible. Thanks for taking on this task, KR, it's so important.

I LOVE this! Thank you very much!!!! Instead of vitiating or eroding faith, this research bolsters faith.
Here's something that my Medieval history professor, who an atheist or at least a skeptic said. Around the time that Christianity emerged, the old Pagan Roman religion had pretty much lost most of its sincere adherents. There were actually dozens, perhaps hundreds of competing religions in the intellectual marketplace. Because a multiplicity of cultures comprised the Roman Empire, a lot of religions from very different cultures went in and out of vogue (think of the hundreds of spiritual movements in California!!). There was, for example, Mithras, which was worship of some culture's Sun God.
Why did Christianity succeed where so many HUNDREDS of religions failed to survive? Because Christianity was the only religion at the time which allowed women to be members.
Of course, one could argue that Christianity was morally superior and philosophically more complex, but without WOMEN, Christianity might have been relegated to the dustbin of history.

YES kd. You make me want to go to seminary (or somewhere) and learn to read and study as deeply as you have.
When you've been force-fed the fundy party line as often as many of us were, it is so hard to see anything in the bible but the grossly misinterpreted crap we gagged on--even when we know it doesn't make sense the way we were taught. But, as has been pointed out, no other mystery religion of the day has survived to modernity so there must be something important there that really does speak to the soul. You have helped me to hear some of that Truth without all the clanging noise of power-brokered fundagelicalism.
Thank you.
