Hi! I was drawn here by a discussion in a LiveJournal forum.
Since this board and blog are so deeply founded in religious issues, I'll start there. My family background is Presbyterian, Episcopalian, and Quaker; I have a lot of clergy in my background (all are or were fairly left-wing...and obviously this isn't the case with the Quaker side of the family); however, I was turned off of Christianity when my family moved to the South and I encountered some of the hard-line traditions here. Nowadays I have come to peace with it, and am comfortably suspended somewhere between agnosticism, paganism, Quakerism, and Buddhism. Since the organized Christian left seems to be defunct (at least where I live), I content myself with making my own way and don't affiliate with a church.
I'm a feminist and I try to be anti-racist, although I am always learning on that front.
I think it's only right to disclose that I am an outsider. I have never experienced spiritual abuse to the extent that many people here have, and I will try not to overstep my boundaries. I've watched the blog for some time and have been moved by the stories I have read there.
Finally, I should mention that I am a public school teacher, and am more than willing to share my perspective as such (as long as I can remain reasonably anonymous). Bear in mind that my workload may keep me from replying to inquiries as quickly as I might like to.
