Oh.....and speaking of my inlaws. They're in the Message cult still and incredibly inconsistent.
When we had them watch our kids when we went to Mexico in 2006 ( a very long story with horrible happenings that made us decide that our inlaws will NEVER be with our kids unattended - thank goodness they live 450 miles away and don't come to visit), my MIL didn't give my autistic son his laxatives because it was medication. He was SO backed up, he hadn't pooped for 8 days. By the time we got him to the chiropractor, he hadn't pooped for 10 days. Poor kid.
But....here's where the inconsistencies are. He was teething a molar and my MIL (who is WAY emotionally unstable, as we found out) didn't want to put up with his crying so she took him to the dentist and told the dentist to put him on something, anything, so that she didn't have to deal with it. They put him on amoxycillin (without even asking his medical history). I gave my MIL and the dentist a piece of my mind when we got home and found out that had happened.
Needless to say, we really don't have a relationship with them much anymore other than calling on their birthday and my hubby has to down a 6-pack of beer before he talks to them. I try not to talk to them at all.

Off-topic but in line with the last post: My future MIL won't even speak to me or meet me. Any woman who is with her son is automatically a whore and a bad person because she believes that her son isn't able to connect with "righteous" women because he lives a sinful life in her eyes. This woman (I'll call her Mommy Dearest), believes that she is an apostle come back to life and that god tells her what to say. If you don't like it or if she's rude, it's not her fault, just god's wish! Anyways, right now my fiance and me are working with CPS in another state to get custody of his 15-month old daughter. CPS took custody of her from her seriously disturbed mother when the mother threatened to kill herself and the baby. My fiance had to make a deal with the devil and asked Mommy Dearest to help him drive down as I was unable to go. During the trip, he told Mommy Dearest that we were getting married. Her response? He would be stupid to marry me cuz now that his ex has been put in the loony bin she will be a totally different person and suitable to marry and why would he want his daughter to be a bastard?

I've got the perfect solution. My MIL and your future MIL in a cage match. The only rule is that they both come out in body bags. j/k sorta

I'd never deal with the woman ever again if it was up to me. I don't have any real control over her relationship with my future step-daughter, but I'll be damned if I let her around my kids. My fiance is folding into my family and even though my family is far from normal, they are way better than his mother!
Cage match sounds swell!

Wow. You know, I do regret some of the things I lost by growing up Adventist, but that is definitely not one of them. Adventists are all about modern medicine-- most of the Adventists I know are in the medical field one way or another. Adventism began in the 1840s as one of the Millerite cults, with roots in the temperance movement. Health became one of the driving missions, and though there was a bunch of wackadoodle stuff (Road to Wellville), they were open to scientific advances. I guess if you have to be born into a weird religion, it's better than some.

I couldn't help but burst out laughing reading this part, just picturing her reaction. You might as well have told her you were going to turn into a bat and suck the blood of the living. Here in Southern California, there's a trucking company that has huge bible verses painted on the sides of the trucks. Fundamentalists love it. The rest of us are are annoyed at being told in 3'-tall letters that we're going to hell.

I don't know how those people account for the fact that, regardless of faith, those with access to medical care are those most likely to live. Cancer is almost always a killer without chemo, and poor people don't get chemo. Or does this god just plain not care about poor people? Faith didn't keep Mother Teresa alive, and won't make immortal those who make illness and death out to be punishments for us non-believers. If non-believers should die (lack of faith means no getting better, right?), then I guess I'm a closeted believer because I'm considered to be a true miracle, having been dead twice, spent six weeks with less than 60% oxygen, brain-frying temps of up to 107, severe toxemia, etc., each things that by themselves usually cause severe brain damage or death. Who'd'a thunk that I'm the believer and Pearl apparently wasn't one. (Sarcasm meant.)
Sierra, I'm glad you got out of that cult.
