I've been reading NLQ since it started (followed a link from someone who followed it from the Salon article) and decided to join the conversation/community.
Relevant personal data: I'm a Canadian woman "of a certain age", a lifelong atheist from a family that did not believe but thought it was important that my sisters and I go to Sunday school to understand what everyone else was on about when religion was discussed. I simply can't comprehend the need to have what to me seems to be an imaginary friend who will make everything better - or something. I don't mean that as dismissively as it likely seems, I truly can't conceive of being in that mindset.
I am impressed by the range of comments and discussions, and the general civility of these boards.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Ambrosia is not my actual name, but my "nom de web" for my blog (still in development). It is from one of my weird cultural heroes, the skeptic and curmudgeon Ambrose Bierce. Also, it is a great name on its own. I almost wish I had thought of it when naming my daughter

I figured it was your web name. I'm not actually named Coleslaw, either. Does your blog have a subject or theme of some kind. I have a blog, Word Salad, but it's not about anything in particular, just my ramblings about whatever is on my mind at the time. I doubt anyone reads it but it's kind of fun having one.

Coleslaw; I had a quick look at your blog & I may peek in from time to time. I found some interesting posts. Mine, if I ever stop tweaking and fiddling and just do the blasted thing, will be my take politics/government and religion/lack thereof. Basically outlining how much better everything would be if I ruled the world.

Well, that's sort of what mine is about, only more indirectly. Let us know when yours is up and running.
