It feels weird to post an intro thread with my username as the subject but it appears that's the standard practice here.
I just found this blog and board and it seems hugely interesting. I really need to learn to understand other humans, and this seems like a great environment in which to do that.
As for who I am and my past - well, my sister-in-law told me a few weeks ago that I was the least traumatized person she knew. I grew up wild and free with a loving mother who never forced anything on me. My father, who was a wonderful person, died of a heart attack when I had just turned seven. My mother did just fine on her own, though - the other day on the phone she was talking about explaining to other people that we don't really "do" holidays, and she said that her for every day is Mother's Day.
So...yeah. Basically I sometimes feel like I'm a mental and emotional neocon, looking down on people who weren't born into privilege and expecting them to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" without any understanding of the conditions of their lives and minds. It looks like this might be a caring and nurturing place to correct that character fault.
I have been reading some and it seems like this community is full of intelligent and caring people with beautiful souls, and I think that you guys have a lot to teach me. I am a very willing student.

Thanks for the welcome. I have been reading more - actually I've had this window open all day and just turned the monitor off when I wasn't at the computer. I may have finally found a place on the internet where I actually fit in. I've never really been exposed to Christianity, but it's just -a place to think and talk about religion and society where it's okay to disagree? I'm still smarting from the tongue-lashing I got on a political forum recently for not totally agreeing with every opinion and viewpoint of the other posters and not expressing myself in the way they thought I should - and those posters were mostly male, now that I think about it. And on forums that were mostly female, I didn't fit in because they wanted to conform and be nice and agreeable and couldn't handle any conflict, not even nice polite conflict. You guys rock, and I'm so happy I found this place.

Welcome, MedleyMisty... This is a place of love and acceptance, healing broken hearts, sometimes kicking some butt! But as for disagreements, well, we got 'em...but keep on grinnin'...except for this one guy who I think seriously got his ears burned the other day... Anyway, ROCK ON with us! We are educational and then some! Grandma Lou
