Hi I'm Belinda. I'm a former Muslim who reads NLQ and can't get over the similarities between Quiverfull / Biblical Patriarchy and the Islamic lifestyle.
Dunno what else to say!

Welcome Belinda, I'm so glad you are here! I'm always glad when a new person posts/becomes a member. But I'm so happy to hear from a former Muslim. I can't get over the similarities between QF and the conservative Islamic lifestyle either. But there are still differences of course. And hearing from someone who has lived the life my friend is living now is great. Thank you for your long reply to my intro, I will answer that later. Please tell, how did you get out? How/why did you get in? How are you living now? I'm curious

Welcome to the board! I'm really interested in what you have to say, too - all the muslim women I have known have been immigrants *to* the West (and the ones with convert husbands tend to think they're a little overenthusiastic).
It is both heartening and terrifying to see all of you moms coming out of years at home and making new lives.

Please tell, how did you get out? How/why did you get in? How are you living now? I'm curious Thanks all for the warm welcome. I left Islam simply because I was no longer convinced that it was divinely revealed or that Islam's claims about itself as a religion could be true. For example, Islam doesn't say the Quran was 'divinely inspired' but it must be the literal and perfect word of God. To say the former is disbelief and takes you out of Islam, so there is only one way or the highway. When you don't have intellectual wiggle room like that you must look at things in a stark and uncompromising manner, and Islam did not measure up. I just live a regular lifestyle now. I hate to say this but what you hear in the news about how Islam orders death to people like me is, unfortunately, true. Most Muslims obviously do not care about this, and they live their regular lives. But some do care and they can make things awfully interesting. So I can't be more specific about that, only to say that I have had to move once already. I do still have some Muslim friends and I have my family but I stay distant from them, and make myself very busy in life so that I have an excuse to keep away. I know of a couple former Muslim people who have been reading NLQ and just amazed - it's almost like reading about your own life, the way marriages are done, etc.
