Okay, getting down to business - my name is Allison, and I'm 22. I've been following the NLQ blog pretty much since it began, and I read these forums like it's my job... so I thought I'd delurk for a minute and say hello. I do not have the hardcore ex-fundie cred that some of you do, not having been raised in a QF/P family, but I did spend a large part of my childhood living with a grandmother who cast 'demons' out of me whenever I talked back, so... I feel that gives me a little cache! Anyway, I can't remember when my interest in QFers came about, exactly, but since I lost the faith I've been reading everything I could about Christianity and splinter movements within it. A post on here that struck a deep chord with me (though I've never had an adult, fully-formed religious life) was Atheist in the BBs one... what did it say? Alright: "replacing a Christian life centered around Christianity with a non-Christian life centered around Christianity" I worry that's what I'm doing, but until I decide to let it go for good... here I am! Anyway, I just wanted to say hello to you all. Hope you're all having a, er, lovely day!

"I did spend a large part of my childhood living with a grandmother who cast 'demons' out of me whenever I talked back."
That's pretty hardcore, and potentially damaging. I don't think you should discount it.

That's what the church I used to be in did. The leaders would cast out "demons of rebellion" if you ever dared to question or oppose them.
My heart goes out to you, Allison.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. I don't really discount my experiences with my grandmother and my 'demons of rebellion', but it is a lot easier for me to deal with my feelings about that if I, you know, kind of make light of it.

Hi Allison, and welcome! I am sorry for my belated post but I am just trying to catch up on intros I missed when busy or ill. (I have frequent migraines that just take over my day/week/month.)
There's no doubt about it, QF is fascinating, as are many other restrictive groups.

Tapati, that's so true. I can't stop reading about QF, FLDS, and other patriarchal religions. I would never want to be involved in a restrictive religion again, but they're so interesting to read about.

It really is fascinating. I get so involved in some of the stories of QF/P women and girls in the blog world, too... I had to cut myself off from finding new blogs to read. Some I've been following for two or three years now... it is my crack.

Heh heh! Well, I'm really mainly into generationcedar.blogspot.com. Homeschooling mother of eight. Absolutely can't be reasoned with, but I enjoy watching people try.
ccostello.blogspot.com <--- 24 year old orthodox Jew living in Israel, I think she contributes to Ladies Against Feminism as well
autumn-alittleprincess.blogspot.com <--- Pretty boring, actually, but it's all about a 16 year old newlywed who 'courted' or whatever and can't wait to have kids
unlessthelord.blogspot.com <--- mother of the 16-year-old newlywed
yoursacredcalling.blogspot.com
And every article on ladiesagainstfeminism.com is pure patriarchy gold, as well

Don't know if she has time for it anymore. ;-)

ooooh! I love Crack, too! I have favorited those websites I am such a snoop.. but I love reading about homey ladies and all the cooking from scratch and how they do their laundrey and yadda yadda and if there are photos! even funner! I am so not like that.. I think secretly I want to be but am fully aware ..hello! at least for me.. it would be living in a fantasy world (alone) .. The 16 yr old couple.. oh this sounds soo bad but I feel a terrible crash coming to burst her bubble My cousin's daughter has a myspace page (she is not all Jesus-y) but spent a year posting fotos of her upcoming wedding.. the theme song on her page was some wedding love number, and the background was that wet, rainy kissing scene from The Notebook.. Then when she got prego.. the same thing except this time the background was a prego belly.. all she did was talk about how she loved her hubby and was planning the nursery It is like she built her "being" around being a wife and mother.. Well she had her little girl, Emily There were a few postings of family photos with the new baby girl.. a month or so past .. a little more Now she could be "BUSY" .. but where is the happy homey wife now? That sort of life can't last.. it just cant.. i wish it would (I would be in it!!) but it's not reality but fun to snoop just the same Like reading a romance novel..
