I am a 39-year-old woman from NYC who was raised a pentecostal Christian. As an adult, I eventually moved into the evangelical movement. In 2001 finally became fed up with the patriarchal, homophobic messages I had been fed in church from the cradle, the unfulfilled promises I had been told would be mine as a devoted Christian, and let's not forget the pressure to conform or be publically ostracized. I began questioning everything, beginning with the existence of god/God. I now consider myself a Christian with agnostic tendencies, and I live according to my conscience, not according to what other people say god/God wants. (I also had gotten tired of being pressured to ignore my conscience just because the church said what god/God wanted was so different from what my conscience told me was right.)
