I grew up in a large family, the oldest of six. While my family had some leanings towards the Quiverful movement they also maintained principals that prevented them from joining, the most prominent one being the firm belief that to stand in the way of freedom of choice is to stand in the way of God. I was home schooled by two college graduates who expected all of their children to have careers and farther their education. The most important lesson, we the children, in my parents eyes needed to learn was self reliance. This, from what I understand is not encouraged in the general movement.
While we attended a home church for a time when I was in my pre and early teens, it split and we went with the moderate portion. By this time however, I was already against organized religion. I decided at the tender age of seven when, in a scaring gentle voice, I was told only boys got to take the offering I would not become a church member. This for me was the moment when organized religion became a silly, boy’s only club that I was not going to waste my time on. On a side note the portion of the home church that moved towards the extreme mostly became Mennonites and firmly believes that women are helpmeets.
As an adult I attended college and received a BS. I am married, one of the double incomes no children couples. Politically I would be described as socially liberal and fiscally conservative. Also I am a chronic lurker and will rarely be posting. Hi everyone
