Hi. I'm a conservative, middle-aged Christian (Independent Baptist) whose name is Becky. You can learn more about me at www.family.solidrockpl.org though I don't think I've done much updating in a couple of years.
I do believe that God put in our hearts a longing to know God. Most religions have replaced God with all kinds of "good deeds". I do believe that salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ alone. No kind of works, whether it is baptism, charity work, or following a set of rules, will earn us favor with God.
I am against abuse in any form. I have never been actively involved in the extremes of Christianity though some here would probably define me as extreme. I don't "feel like" I am. (I do cut my hair, my girls wear pants, though I don't 'cuz I look really bad in them, we don't believe using b/c is wrong, we use the internet and can watch tv though we don't do much of that because there isn't much good on, etc.) We've both home schooled and put our kids in the Polish public school.
My husband has a PhD in Old Testament. He travels to other countries and teaches in various Bible schools and we are currently starting a Baptist church here near Warsaw, Poland.
We have 5 children. My two oldest sons are studying Bible in a conservative Christian college in the U.S.
I am concerned about some of the same things that the q/f lifestyle is (modesty, obeying Christ, etc.). I believe that the wife should be in submission to her husband but I also believe that the husband is to love the wife. If a man truly loves his wife, her submission isn't that big of a deal because he is constantly thinking of her first and is consumed with her welfare.
My lifestyle here is more like the "simpler life" of the 50's in the US in that I do cook and bake cakes, can, garden, etc. I'm a stay at home mom though I do teach English to a few people who want to learn from a native speaker. I make bread when I want to--which is a few times a year--and then in a bread machine though I know how to make it without. Mostly if I make the dough, we make up cinnamon rolls because we can buy fresh bread with no preservatives quite inexpensively here.
In the last couple of years I've become interested in quilting. I've known how to sew since I was about 13 and even taught sewing at the university where I went while working on my master's degree in education. I make a lot of quilts to give away to needy people. Cotton fabric is in short supply here so I often use curtains or bedding purchased at the used clothing store. (usually imported from England.)
I've renamed myself from "Becky" to "justflyingin" for this forum.
I've been interested in the burgeoning "quiverfull" movement ever since becoming acquainted with it since some families in some of our supporting churches have gone this route. I've also known a couple of families who have left the movement. I've always been on the outside of the whole "home schooling" movement since we moved to Poland when my oldest was in first grade even though I've home schooled and am currently home schooling my two girls who are 8th and 11th grades.
