Hello,
I am new to this forum, but not new to the quiverfull/patriarchy mindset. I was first introduced to this belief system when I attended a pentecostal home prayer meeting and was "born again" and "baptized in the Holy Spirit" at the tender age of 15. I promptly joined a small blue-collar pentecostal church where the ideas of QF/P were reinforced constantly. So even though I attended college, and worked at a bank to pay my way through a 4 year Bachelors degree in Business Administration, I had no intention of pursuing a career. My chief goal was to marry well, and raise godly children, which of course included home birth, and homeschooling.
I was married three decades ago, to a young man who understood that the Biblical mandates of patriarchy and quiverfull commitment's were unrealistic. We spent 17 years together in a tug of war between my commitment "to the Lord", and his commitment to rational thinking. Our union produced three wonderful kids.
I left the quiverfull/patriarchy movement after years of frustration and "failure". In addition to trying to live up to the demands of the QF/P lifestyle, I was constantly fighting with my husband who wanted no part of such nonsense as he pursued his career as a college professor.
I finally "saw the light" when I re-examined the very foundation of such beliefs and practices: the Bible. I asked a simple question, "could the beginning stories in the Pentateuch be shown to benefit Moses directly, without God's involvement?" Well lo and behold it was fairly easy to show how Moses (and his close relatives) directly benefited from the Adam and Eve story, the Noah story, and every succeeding story which they perpetuated. I wrote an article about these foundational stories which is available at the following link exchristian.net/testimonies/2008/12/once-you-know-something-you-cant-un.html .
