Hi! I'm the other argumentative "godless communist Femi-Nazi", after Kaderin! I'm German and Polish (not half-half, just both, simultaneously, for several generations. It's complicated) atheist graphic designer. I grew up mostly in Germany, but moved to the U.S. shortly after High-School. Now I live in North Dakota with my boyfriend. I'm also suffering from SIWOTI Syndrome, which is why I can't stay away from online discussions :-p

Wait a minute, Jadehawk, you're a graphic designer? So we both suffer confrontational SIWOTI syndrome, are German/Slavic communist femi-Nazi heathens and now we also share profession? (Well, technically, I'm not a Graphic Designer. Yet. Still at university. And there's the possibility of going into CGI. But still!)
Are...are you my lost twin or something?

I've been enjoying your blog comments, Jadehawk! I too can never just lurk and not respond and have stayed up many a late night because someone is wrong on the internet!
Part of my heritage is German and my son studied German pretty intensely and has traveled to Germany. When I was a child, all we heard about Germany was "Nazi" this and "Nazi" that, and it took me awhile to throw that off and realize Germany was more than just the Nazi era. Meeting a few modern era Germans in person helped.
My grandma made her own sauerkraut but I don't have her recipe. I think watching her process all that cabbage was too daunting to imagine I'd ever want to do it.

Jadehawk, That is hysterical. I want to hear more--especially about how you ended up in North Dakota. I, too, suffer horribly (well, not as much as other people do from my condition) from SIWOTI. Maybe we should start a support group? I'll go first, second, and third with my posts!
I have really enjoyed your postings. Come on, besides being a godless communist femi nazi you *have* to have a degree in anthropology.

Are...are you my lost twin or something? lol, it certainly seems that way! though, I daresay you'll end up a much more professional designer than I am. I'm pretty much self-learned, and can't support myself JUST on graphic design yet, but "graphic designer" sounds better than "works at starbucks" :-p Jadehawk, That is hysterical. For one, it's cheaper to live here so I can focus more on my graphic design, and less on working a crappy McJob to cover rent. Also, this is where the boyfriend lived, so it was either hi movieng to Seattle, or me moving to ND. and the latter was cheaper, and easier. :-) and no, I don't have a degree in anthropology, I'm just an information-sponge, heheh.

SIWOTI syndrome. ;D Heh. Yeah, that fits me, too. I'm married to a graphic designer (though he, too, is still at school). So far what it seems to mean to be married to one, is to have someone gone a lot, and when he's there, perpetually with marker on his fingers. Would that describe you, too? Germany is beautiful; at least, the part I visited (near Heidelberg) was. Do you miss it? North Dakota is so much dryer!

Welcome Jadehawk! (I realize my reply is a little late, oh well!)
So I imagine you being German you know my screen name means "someone" probably better than I do! I've wondered, is that a generic term or is it gendered? I'm not entirely sure lol. I don't know enough German, just enough to get myself in trouble!

I do however end up with paint or charcoal all over myself (even in really really strange places) when I do the sketches! :-p and I do miss Germany and would like to go back someday, but North Dakota has its beautiful parts, too. The boyfriend and I are actually planning a week-long mountain-biking trip through the Badlands this summer.

Oh, I wouldn't say that - self-learned is the best kind of learned. Less formulaic and more innovative :3 well, I work from home on my computer, so I'm actually a couch-potato who rarely sees daylight (I work till 5am, then sleep until late afternoon) or goes outside. Hah, isn't that kinda a requirement for being a graphic designer? Honestly, it's gotten so bad, I now use this system. Such a great way to travel the world - yesterday I woke up in Japan ;P
