I realized that this thread existed after I posted elsewhere!
Vickie, Thank you very much for NLQ!
Every Commenter and Contributor, Thank you for your involvement. The following was also part of my first post -- I have been a 'lurker' on this site for quite a long time. I found NLQ due to concerns I had about my step-son's mother and step father, their new-found fundamentalism, and subsequent child abuse issues in their home.
My step-son's experiences have lead me to want to find out about the Q/F and fundie perspectives and their respective theological underpinnings, etc. --
Everyone involved with NLQ has been such a support for me, even though I have, until now, just been reading away. I have learned more than I could have ever imagined. More importantly, I have a new-found depth of compassion for everyone who struggles through demoralizing / diminishing relationships with religious groups and within families.
Thank you!

So glad that you're here and that this is helpful in understanding your stepson's environment. That you're there for him and trying to understand really goes a long way. How often is he with you, if you don't ming my asking? I think it's incredibly healthy, regardless, that he gets to see a different atmosphere with you than he does with his mom and stepdad...just knowing that there are alternatives makes it seem like you can have some kind of choice.

Kiery, Sorry it took me so long to notice this post!
he is with us for the majority of the time. Seeing the differences between the two families is indeed very helpful for him. He's in therapy, but I just wish he never had to deal with the difficult situations in the first place!
thanks for the kind welcomes everyone!
