Good morning...Grandma Lou here...Vyckie's mom. Thankful she is finally free, writing a wanring to others who may be still involved in this extremely harmful life style. Wouldn't trade all the precious grandchildren for a bloomin' thing. Feared for Vyckie's life though, most of her life. And especially when she was pregnant. She has had some tricky health conditions and for the most part, they were not being addressed. Her faith was at times, I think, all that was holding her together. BTDT... I am happily married for 17 years as of April 3rd, to Wayne. He's a former farmer, semi-retired at the age of 78. To either of us, "retired" just means we've been tired before... I am thankful for all the insightful responses to both Vyckie and Laura on this blogspot. I feel this is an excellent way to be encouragers to each other, for those who are in a sad situation, and who have been.

Nice to meet you grandmalou. Gosh, I wish I were able to bare my soul to my Mother. That is one of the things that makes me sad, that we can't talk together about a subject we both feel so strongly, yet differently about. It's like she hardly knows me. We're close, but not that close!

It's wonderful how supportive you are, GrandmaLou. It must be great for you to stop worrying about Vyckie-- at least, not as much as you used to.

Hi GrandmaLou! Welcome! I think one of the great things about Vyckie's story is how you were able to grow closer over time (from her teen years). I had that experience with my mom, too, and it was really a blessing. I also am glad I had my kids, even if that meant meeting and marrying my abuser. It's great that something good came out of those years. It must be wonderful to have so many beautiful grandchildren.
