And I'm not precisely new here, but I never did get around to writing an intro post before. I'm an interior design student, and it's the kind of degree where 60 hours of work is a light week, and every semester end you work around 90.
I've been reading NQL since relatively near the beginning -- I can't remember how I found it, but I do remember that I immediately started devouring all the archives once I had a taste. I love to read, and NQL is a spot where a lot of my interests come together. Feminism, religion, anthropology, how people think and why they do what they do.... It is a wonderful contrast to the very academic feminism that a friend of mine likes to post about (take a look at Feministing to get the idea).
I've never been a Christian of any sort -- my mother was brought up Catholic, my father Protestant, but neither has gone to church for at least 30 years. They both believe strongly in guilt, though. I'm currently agnostic but lean towards neopagan, Buddhist, and Hindu ideas. I don't think I'll ever quite be an atheist -- while I am skeptical, the universe is just too animated and often perverse to be spirit-less and meaningless.
I was also brought up moderately feminist by my mother, who got thoroughly screwed over by 1950s patriarchy, and is forever scarred by it. Nothing dramatic, you understand, but her wants and dreams and abilities were systematically destroyed and dismissed so that she could be my father's live-in housekeeper, and it's made them both very unhappy. She's a very strong, very neurotic woman who I now can see lives in constant emotional pain, and being around her isn't good for anyone. My friends who also know my sister, when I mention my mother, tend to say something like, "I've heard about her; I'm so sorry."
Getting back to the present, I have a school project coming up where I want to consult and research with you wonderful people. Which part of the forum would I post about that in, once I know the particulars?
